Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood Preview
Sonic and his team speed through our DS screens once again in an epic new RPG – a first even for one of the oldest characters in video games.
SEGA has teamed up with Bioware, the creators such successful RPGs such as Baldur’s Gate, Never Winter Nights and the futuristic space adventure Mass Effect, to create a brand new experience for Sonic fans around the world.
For you older fans of our blue hedgehog hero, you’ll be pleased to know that Green Hill zone is back again in this new game. So you’ll be able to spin along across the hills of green gathering rings to your hearts content. Sonic and his companions travel through vast areas and worlds in this new adventure.
Characters that feature in this latest adventure are Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose, Shadow, Cream, Big the Cat, E-123 Omega, Rogue the Bat and introducing an all new character, Shade.
The story begins with Knuckles being captured by marauders who are stealing the chaos emeralds. By the time you reach Act 2, many allies have been gathered together and are on a quest to a new dimension, but they crash land on a strange new world. With their vessel disabled, the gang begin to explore their new surroundings.
Players can either choose to play through the main storyline or go back and forth between the side quests and the story. This game offers a 20hrs + gameplay experience on the main storyline and 40hrs + if you choose to play through the side quests.
The combat in this game is turn based. Speedy type characters like Sonic will have the advantage of using up to three moves in one turn. The moves available to a character will depend on the character type. When characters level up, the moves the characters possess can be upgraded.
Combinations of three characters can be used. Although Sonic is always forced to be the leader, you can change the on-screen character to whoever you wish.
Another new addition to this game are the Chaos life forms that hatch from eggs. These small life forms attach to the playable characters and reward them with special abilities. There are 40 to collect throughout the game. Using the DS wireless connection will allow you to trade your Chaos’ with friends to collect them all.
With the new combat system, side quests and main storyline, this game will definitely please a wide range of gamers.
