Animal Crossing: City Folk Preview

  by Kooichi

Have you ever played a very addicting game but could not explain why you loved it so much? Animal Crossing is a perfect example of such a game. Animal Crossing is one of the most popular Nintendo franchises and Nintendo has announced the newest installment titled Animal Crossing City Folk.

The basic gameplay from the Animal Crossing series allows the player to live a virtual life in a town filled with humanized animals. You can go around fishing, digging up fossils, decorating your own house, and many other activities that makes the game fun. City Folk’s gameplay builds upon its predecessors, so it’s basically the same.  The primary new addition is the city area. The city will have many different activities such as shopping for clothes and furniture, changing your hairstyle, and other Animal Crossing styled activities. There will be an Auction house in the city that takes advantage of the Wii’s Wi-fi connection, which will allow players to auction their items to other players, and also an academy that lets the player see how well another player’s town is doing. If a player sends a text message or email to your town, you’ll be able to read it from your town thanks to the Wiiconnect24.

Other additions to City Folk include more control over your character's appearance, such as being able to change his or her face to the face of one of your Miis, and customization of the front, back, or sleeves of your shirt instead of the shirt as a whole. When a player creates more than one character, instead of living in the same house, they get their own. Cool addition. The special holidays from previous games are returning, so don’t forget to visit the game during holidays like Halloween or Christmas for special items. Additionally, downloadable content will be available as a free service to add more items and new furniture.

City Folk will be the first game on the Wii to utilize the new Wiispeak. The Wiispeak is new voice chat option for the Wii that allows players to communicate in-game with each other. This will be packaged with Animal Crossing: City Folk for $70 when the game is released on November 18, 2008.
