Spore Preview
From your beginnings as a microbe all the way to a space traveling civilization, Spore brings you through all the steps of evolution in an innovative way. Through 5 separate phases the evolution of your own creations unfolds.
Starting as a microbe in the Cell phase, you eat smaller organisms until you grow into a fully fledged creature.
Once that's complete, you design your own creature using a restricted amount of DNA points earned from the game, and play as him in this Creature phase, eating food, reproducing, battling and making friends.
When your creature becomes fairly intelligent, the game then moves on to the Tribal phase. In this phase, you have a small tribe of your creature, and building up your tribe becomes most important. Fighting off other tribes, gathering food and weapons, and assigning roles are all available. Fighting off or befriending the five other tribes that will appear builds your totem pole and once complete, you move on to the Civilization phase.
Once Civilization rolls around, your tribe now is a thriving city, where you design the buildings and vehicles. Territory control and large scale warfare are now in effect. After your entire planet in conquered through military or peaceful means, the game moves to it's final stage: Space.
In the Space phase you build spaceships in order to explore the universe of Spore. You can now go terraform planets, and populate them with creatures you abduct and create. With 500,000+ planets in your universe, you will never be able to explore them all. Players can make contact with the species other players have made when they are exploring these planets, Building alliances or creating enemies. Creating a federation of planets or starting interstellar war is all possible in the wonderful universe of Spore.
One of the more interesting aspects of Spore is it's creature creator, which uses DNA points as currency in order to purchase body parts such as beaks, webbed feet, and claws for your personally designed creature. The possibilities are endless, and when the creature is created, it's animations and even personality will be adapted from the actual design.
Another innovation Spore uses is it's Sporepedia, which uploads everyone's creatures and transfers then to each other user's galaxies. So, while the game is single player, the experience is built from thousands of players creating the content.
I highly recommend watching out for this game when it hits shelves on Sept. 7. What will you create?
