World of Goo Review

  by Andi

World of Goo is one of those games that just jumps out at you. Every minute of it you'll know your experiencing something special.

I for one am a big fan of the indie game market. Whether it be freeware, downloadable content or whatever, I always like to look at what these guys are churning out. Why? Because its different.

World of Goo defiantly does not disappoint in this aspect, or any for that matter. For starters, lets narrow down what this game is about (as I was a little confused before booting it up myself). World of Goo is essentially a puzzle game. You grab little living goo's whom cling together, you then need to build up to a pipe. The pipe then sucks down the little blobs that you didn't use to get there or sometimes, didn't live to see the pipe.

Its simple yet fun and with different types of goo's and a nice physics engine backing it up its always a unique experience. Things stay interesting with unique scenario's, including building out of a frogs mouth and creating a goo boat.

The graphics are charming and gorgeous. The goo's blank expressions are amusing, and the environments fit in perfectly. The sounds and music also fit in great and the sign's helping out along the way are amusing and humorous.

The online is limited to what seems to be tower building and leaderboards (I was unable to connect, but I believe it was a problem on my end as nobody has any reports of any problems).

On paper, this sounds like a mediocre experience. Get in there on the other hand and you'll end up with hours of enjoyment, and an endless smile on your face. Clock another point down for the little guys on this one, World of Goo is nothing short of a tiny masterpiece.

I would love to see more indie games get noticed out there, I'm sure there are more gems like this one.
