inFamous Review

  by darknessedge

infamous was a new IP by Sly Cooper creators Sucker Punch, but unlike Sly Cooper infamous  had a much darker tone. You Play Cole MacGrath, a messengers who is suspected of detonating a bomb that killed tens of thousands of people, and destroying several city blocks. Cole gains the power to control lighting, and you as the player get to decide whether to use this power for good or for evil.

The gameplay is open world and combat is heavy based on your electrical powers, there is some Melee, but isn't very effective.  There is a verity of powers and upgrades in the game. You unlock new powers after completing certain story based missions, powers include, shields, gliding,  lighting grenades just to name a few. You obtain upgrades by becoming more good or evil depending on the path you have chosen and buy purchasing the previous upgrade. You gain experience by killing enemies, completing missions, and by doing karma related actions, and collecting blast shards. There are a large amount of things to collect over 300 blast shards which give you 3 experience per shard, and 36 dead drops to find. As you complete side mission enemies begin to disappear. Blast shards also increase how long you can use your powers for for have to recharge.

The sound effects are crisp and clear, and the voice over was very well done, every voice fit the character so well, and you could tell that each actor was really into their role.  While there isn't a lot of music in the game, but the music that was present fit the tone of the game so it worked.

The story is fantastic from beginning, middle to end, with twists and turns through out the story, but probably the best part of the story was the plot twist at the end of the game. Events in story are determined by decisions you make and ultimately the outcome of the game, which also allows for replayablity.  Infamous has about 15-20 hours per playthrough. Infamous is also good for some mindless destruction, which I found rather enjoyable.

Infamous may have a fantastic story and fun gameplay, but it also has some issues. Sometimes you will Glitch into areas however it doesn't hinder you so much as helps you. There are also some minor Camera Issues. The Karma events are also very black and white, as cole tells you what  each choice will do.

Infamous gets 9.2/10
