Ghostbusters: The Video Game Review

  by Camx360

As with the films this game is in keeping with everything GhostBusters is about, it has the comedy, suspense and originality, if you are a fan of the film this will be a game you can’t put down,it has the original cast from the film as the voice actors for the game which is a bonus, it has a very fulfilling story mode, but also has an added on multiplayer.

I felt that the multiplayer aspect could have had a bit more work done on it to make it more playable to new people that play the multiplayer first. The online is about team work so every game is team based, basically it is destroy something get money or points and it all goes in to one score as a team. They have also done co-op where you play with up to 3 other people on missions outside of the main story line, these can include capturing as many ghosts as possible in a limited amount of time, or attempting to defend a ghost disruptor as it charges.

The plot doesn’t follow the conventional story line of the film, although it has many references to the films, like marshmallow man makes an appearance, and after a mission when you’re in you hq there are lots of pieces of art work and other items from the films scattered around. The story of this game is it starts on thanksgiving of 1991, two years after the events of Ghostbusters 2, The Ghostbusters are recruiting a new person to test the new equipment this is you, and it is annoying because you don’t actually talk ever which annoys me. A large PKE shock wave hits New York City, so you are called to a variety of jobs to capture ghosts, but as you do this the team realize that they all connect to one place, the museum so you have to investigate.

The combat in this game is very heavy and clunky but has an interesting concept which could be good, you start of with just a proton pack with no upgrades, you basically zap a ghost until its health is really low then smack them to the floor and throw out a trap of which they get sucked into. This is basically the combat throughout the game so if your not into repetitiveness then maybe this isn't for you. You do get three more prototype weapons that haven't been tested, you can also get upgrades for your weapons for special ability like the boson dart for the proton pack which when fully upgraded can kill things almost instantly. Where the missions are based are good like, central park and even the ghost underworld. Even though the surroundings and characters are good, it also gets repetitive to fight the same enemy's, i found myself fighting flying fire gargoyles a lot.

Overall i found this game to be a little repetitive but not unbearably, it was good for one playthrough and thats it, then there isn't much for the multiplayer for me, so for me it wasn't enough. This game is more focused at its fans more than new people to the franchise.
